I recently had fillings done and a cleaning at this office and had a great experience. Dr. Johnson was by far the most thorough dentist I’ve ever been to, he was very knowledgeable and genuinely kind. He took the time to explain everything he was doing, and made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire visit. The dental hygienists are also amazing! I also appreciated that I didn’t feel upsold or pressured into unnecessary treatments, which is unfortunately rare to find.

I love this place!  If I have to go to a dentist its going to be here.  Dr. Johnson is amazing! He has always been very patient with me and explains things in terms I can understand.  When walking through the door you are always greeted by Tien and/or Cynthia and both are wonderful and so helpful!  The dental assistants, Kelsi and Valena are friendly and knowledgeable and I CANNOT forget Christie, my Hygienist.  She is so kind and efficient and very good at what she does. They really all go out of their way to make you feel comfortable! Makes for a more relaxing experience!

I've really enjoyed finding a good dentist in SLC who doesn't try to upsell you on work that is not actually needed. It is so refreshing after having gone to a few places that seemed really scammy. The office is very clean as well which is a huge plus in my book. The staff is truly wonderful, always so helpful and kind. I usually write positive reviews, but my experience with Dr. Porter was frustrating. While the dental work turned out great—he matched my front crowns well—his attitude was problematic. When I arrived and informed them I wanted a different procedure, he threw what I can only describe as a tantrum, telling me to “go somewhere else” and appearing visibly upset. I realize I should have called in advance to change the 4-hour booking—that was my mistake and I will own that. Still, his outburst and guilt-tripping made the appointment uncomfortable. Though he later apologized, it felt insincere, and I left feeling more like an inconvenience than a valued patient.

Being a professional means more than being good at your craft, it means treating people with respect and dignity and Dr. Porter does not possess those skills in the slightest.  A professional would have understood my position and worked WITH me to make me more comfortable and helped to address my qualms and reservations, certainly not shamed me into doing something for which I was not prepared.

Edit: Dr Porter called me today and offered a much more sincere apology.  It takes a big person to own up to their mistakes and I truly believe he was acting out of character yesterday.  He offered empathy and made sure I was feeling ok (both physically and mentally).  I'm changing from a 2 star to a 4 star.

I am a newer patient to Avenues Dentistry and am very pleased with my experience so far. I've had routine cleanings and a filling replaced. The staff have all been extremely professional, communicative and attentive to my experience as a patient. I've seen Dr. Greg Johnson and he is an excellent clinician - he explains everything clearly, is patient with any questions you might have, and gentle when doing procedures. I really have found this dental office to be very up to date on everything. The workers here are very professional and friendly. The dentist,Dr Johnson,is very knowledge and experienced. Plus he’s also friendly and easy to talk to about your concerns. He’s very good at what he does and he doesn’t mind explaining why. Which have to do with his experience and ability to stay up to date on the latest knowledge of what is being updated in the field of dentistry. Very nice and likable guy. I’ve loved my experience with Avenues Dentistry. It’s worth the drive to see them! Especially Christie, the Registered Dental Hygienist! She’s the best. She’s so gentle with my deep dental cleaning and kept the cleaning session interesting since she is very approachable and social. Everyone really - has been nothing but sweet to me. The place is so clean and they keep it so organized with appointment text reminders. Always willing to accommodate your schedule too. If you want an organized, clean, and caring dental office in Salt Lake City, this is your place. Unfortunately I am moving to a different state and won’t be able to come back again. These are very good dentists, as are their assistants and staff. I do fear that their semi-recent expansion resulted in a small reduction in personal customer service and convenience - as one might expect when they doubled their capacity. Still a good experience but too many long periods staring at the wall between initial escort to the room, the hygienist’s work and the dentist’s short visit. Just constructive criticism. I am so elated to have found a dentist that does a great job, explains the why of processes and whose staff is always so friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend.
